Significance
Charita Česká republika is one of the main Czech Catholic charitable organisations; according to Czech Wikipedia it was founded in 1919 by the Czech Bishops' Conference, has the form of a church legal entity and consists of ten legal entities (diocesan and archdiocesan charities, the Greek Catholic Charity and others), with 264 city and parish charities as members. [CHA01]
Aid to Ukraine
Czech Wikipedia states that the organisation launched the public collection Charita pro Ukrajinu and works in Ukraine (alongside other countries), focusing on basic needs, housing renovation, healthcare support and aid for internally displaced persons and refugees. [CHA01]
The first-year review presented on 21 February 2023, according to ČTK: from the public collection Charita ČR and its components raised about CZK 165 million; it funded 11 trucks of humanitarian aid, medical equipment worth about CZK 3.5 million, 33 modular houses in Transcarpathia, reconstruction of five accommodation centres in Ukraine and, in Moldova, 3,000 first-aid kits and equipment for 12 accommodation centres. [CHA02]
Directly helped: about 3,660 people received financial support for basic needs, about 2,000 psychological help in therapy sessions; the modular houses are to house roughly 120 people and the renovated centres helped about 3,200 people. Jiří Škvor, head of the humanitarian aid department, said the organisation was then focusing heavily on building decent housing. [CHA02]
Discrepancies in sources
Czech Wikipedia gives no start year for the collection, no amount and no number of recipients, so all numbers come from a single source — a ČTK report on the press conference of Charita ČR itself (February 2023); these are the organisation's own figures without independent verification and cover the first year only. Later reviews (2024–2026) were not found and are therefore not given. This entry rests on only two sources and therefore needs further checking, notably against the official charita.cz website.
