How we verify
The atlas texts are prepared by artificial intelligence and checked in several independent steps. Every dossier shows which steps it has already passed.
Who writes
Information from public sources is gathered and written up by AI. Today these are Claude models by Anthropic, matched to the difficulty of the task: the smaller Haiku model does simple work (describing photos, sorting), and Sonnet both writes and checks the dossiers. Early dossiers were prepared with other AI models and are being checked again.
Every week the atlas grows by itself: a new dossier is accepted only when it rests on at least two sources from different websites. A new dossier always appears as a “Draft”.
Mechanical check
The program looks for every quotation on the source page. If the quotation is not there, the statement does not count as confirmed.
Independent check
A separate run of the model opens the sources and looks for contradictions with the text. It does not see how the text was written and sends the dossier back if it finds an error.
Evidence score
For every statement we count how many independent sources confirm it. Sources that copy each other count as one. A dossier that reaches 40 points out of 100 or more gets the level “Two sources (automatic score)”. This is an automatic count, not a reading by a person.
A person
The level “Confirmed by an editor” is set by a person. The dossier page then says why, for example that the editor knows the organisation personally. This is not a scholarly review.
The most important dossiers go through a full fact check: every statement is compared with primary sources, errors are corrected and the result is recorded in the evidence register.
News
News is collected daily from public sources. Each item has a date and a link to the primary source. Before publication the program checks the date, source, language and completeness of the text.
Images
Photos in dossiers are used only under free licences or with permission; the author and licence are shown under each one. The site background and news illustrations are artistic AI compositions, not documents.
Errors
We mark doubtful points as disputed and never present a hypothesis as fact. Spotted an error? Tell us through the form on the dossier page. All corrections are listed in the corrections log.
How we verify
- DraftResearch draft with sources; independent check still pending.
- Checked automaticallyQuotes mechanically matched to sources; an independent model found no contradictions.
- Two sources (automatic score)Automatic evidence score: key facts rest on at least two independent sources. No person has yet read the whole dossier.
- Confirmed by an editorAn editor confirmed the dossier; the reason is shown on the page. This is not an independent scholarly review.
- Disputed pointsSources disagree; disputed points are marked in the text.
