Ivan Puluj’s Memorial Plaque in Smíchov (No. 1268)
The memorial plaque of physicist Ivan Puluj on house no. 1268 in Smíchov. Sources give the Preslova street number differently (15 or 5); the discrepancy is unresolved.
A history-of-science atlas dates the unveiling of the plaque to 22 June 1930 and credits Ukrainian students in Prague, but this is a single source (PU02, status SINGLE_SOURCE_UNVERIFIED). The plaque records the scientist’s date of death, 31 January 1918 (PU01). Where and when exactly Puluj lived is not documented in dossier R0075.
In 2020 V. Bártík’s catalogue (PU01) gives the address Preslova 15; in 2022 the history-of-science atlas (PU02) gives Preslova 5. The address conflict is left for cadastral and field verification. The dossier contains no description of the facade, the plaque material or the style of the house.
Analysis of spatial transformation
What changed in the urban setting
The dossier records only the address conflict (Preslova 15 versus Preslova 5; PU04 is a municipal office address, not evidence of the plaque’s address). The house number čp. 1268 is the same in the sources.
What is known about preservation
The preservation of the house and the plaque is not described in the dossier and needs on-site verification. Puluj’s actual grave is not here but at Malvazinky Cemetery (R0073).
Significance for contemporary memory
The plaque commemorates Ivan Puluj (1845–1918), physicist and professor at the Prague technical school.
