Poděbrady Castle and the Ukrainian Husbandry Academy
King George’s castle in Poděbrady and the Ukrainian Husbandry Academy (1922–1935): the dossier links the teaching to the castle, but neither the exact premises nor the date of the move is established.
The Ukrainian Husbandry Academy began lectures on 22 June 1922 and operated until 1935. At first it used the hotel U krále Jiřího; "the academy moved to the castle, date to be clarified" (R0071). The 1922–1935 period at the castle is "not fully verified for every room", and the exact lecture rooms are unknown (R0035).
In 2026 a commemorative exhibition of King George is open at the castle (second courtyard) (PC02). Present-day use of the castle by Charles University is not confirmed in dossier R0071.
Analysis of spatial transformation
What changed in the urban setting
The academy ended its work in 1935 (administrative liquidation 1935/1936); the related UTHI moved to Germany in 1945 (R0035).
What is known about preservation
The castle survives as a monument. The cemetery in Poděbrady-Kluk is a place of memory of the Ukrainian emigration linked to the academy (R0072); the location and condition of individual graves still need to be verified.
Significance for contemporary memory
Poděbrady was one of the centres of Ukrainian higher technical and economic education in exile; the castle premises still need archival confirmation.
